An Economy that Works for Everyone
A vibrant economy provides ample opportunity for workers to earn a good income and the ability for businesses to grow.
When our income keeps pace with the cost of living, we can afford essential household expenses. We also are better positioned to build savings and prepare for a more secure future. When we can prioritize our own health and well-being, we are better able to provide care for our family and are more productive at work.
In today’s economy, rising costs for healthcare, childcare, and housing place financial strains on households and make it hard for employers to maintain the workforce they need to be successful. Unexpected healthcare expenses can lead to difficult choices. The rising cost of health insurance makes it difficult for employers to offer competitive wages and a benefits package that is affordable for employees and their families.
NH Possible partners are making progress in several areas, including strengthening the health care workforce, addressing the rising cost of healthcare, and creating a stronger and more equitable childcare system.
When workers can’t find or afford childcare, they may not be able to come to work or accept a new position. High costs and long waiting lists leave many children unable to access the benefits of high-quality early childhood education, which limits their economic potential later in life. The sector struggles due to the inability to pay licensed professional childcare workers a living wage, resulting in chronic turnover and reduced capacity.
The healthcare and childcare systems are vital infrastructure which support our economy. It is time to ensure these systems are strong, affordable, and accessible to all. We can have high-quality affordable childcare that is accessible to all communities, so parents can go to work and be a part of the dynamic economy. And we can have an accessible and affordable health care system that meets the needs of everyone, no matter where we live across the state.
HealthForce NH is working to bolster the pipeline of healthcare workers to ensure we have a strong system of care across the state.
